Fraunhofer Portugal was invited to talk about the Smart Companion project in the ‘Porto Alive’ program in Porto Canal.
The rationale behind this project originated from the fact that although mobile phones are ubiquitous and getting more powerful by the day, they are not necessarily getting easier to use.
The purpose of the Smart Companion is to make it simple for inexperienced users to easily master common mobile phone tasks, such as making calls and sending voice messages.
The Smart Companion is based on the Android OS platform and has been specifically designed to meet older adults’ needs and to help them overcome some limitations usually associated with aging.
Among its features is also the possibility to enable its users to receive medication reminders and to call the emergency line from the main screen in one step only.
