The SkinLesionsRS, developed by Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS, is one of the projects supported by RESOLVE. The mobile-based solution aims to improve the referral process of skin lesions between Local Health Centres and Hospital Dermatology Departments.
The mobile dermatology is one of the fields of research performed by Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS. This area has been explored since 2011. The Referral Solution for Skin Lesions (SkinLesionsRS) intends to optimize the triage process for patients examined in Local Health Centres.
With the support of this technology, general practitioners from Local Health Centres are able to acquire highly relevant dermatological information through the usage of a smartphone, an adaptable dermoscope and a mobile application. The SkinLesionsRS project aims to mature and eventually integrate a melanoma risk assessment module to assist specialists in the triage process.
The project has been part of the RESOLVE, a health technology-based program hosted by i3S – Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde (Institute for Research and Innovation in Health Sciences). This program is designed to foster scientific knowledge transfer and lead to the transformation of innovative research into profitable ventures, by providing support and management tools to early-stage projects and start-ups in the health sector.
