The pilot developed within the scope of the DERM.AI project has begun and will last for 5 months. The kick-off took place with a training session aimed for Dermatologists and General and Family Medicine doctors of the Local Health Unit (ULS) of Guarda. It was provided by Fraunhofer-AICOS and SPMS - Serviços Partilhados do Ministério da Saúde, with the cooperation of Dra. Adelaide Belo from the Administração Central do Sistema de Saúde (ACSS) and Dra. Mónica Caetano from Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Porto (CHP).
This pilot will focus in the evaluation of the usability of the mobile app to acquire dermatological images to support the referral process by the General and Family Medicine doctors and at the same time validate the quality of the images obtained using the application that will be received by dermatologists in the referral process at ULS Guarda. It is planned to last for 5 months in 6 local healthcare units in coordination with the dermatology department of ULS Guarda.
DERM.AI is a three-year project aims to improve the existing Teledermatology processes between Primary Care Units and Hospital Dermatology Departments in the National Health System for skin lesions diagnosis through the usage of Artificial Intelligence. It is coordinated by AICOS and developed in partnership with SPMS – Serviços Partilhados do Ministério da Saúde, supported by ‘FCT – Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P.’ under the programme Data Science and Artificial Intelligence in Public Administration.
