The Smart Cities global market is growing rapidly, and technologies such as 5G and the Internet of Things (IoT) have contributed greatly to the improvement of the efficiency of urban services, filling some of the main gaps in terms of energy, mobility, security, privacy and environmental sustainability. However, there is still a long way to go.
The mobilizing project “City Catalyst – Catalyst for sustainable cities” - promoted by EFACEC ENERGIA and developed within a consortium of 22 institutions, among which is FhP-AICOS - aims to investigate and develop new products, processes and services with high potential, contributing to an integrated urban management, efficient and innovation-catalyzing, based on specific contributions to the implementation and interoperability of urban platforms.
Within the City Catalyst project, FhP-AICOS is responsible for proposing and implementing the sensing infrastructure and sensing gateway, as well as helping in the development of the open innovation platform following a co-creation approach. As a result, 5 demonstrators are intended to be implemented in the cities of Porto, Aveiro, Guimarães, Famalicão and Cascais, in order to validate new products and services developed within the City Catalyst project.
With an investment of over 5 million euros, the City Catalyst project has kicked-off in 2020 and has 36-month length.
