On February 7th, 2025, Porto became a hub for AI excellence as Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS (FhP-AICOS) hosted the Robustness in AI Workshop. Organized by the Center for Responsible AI (CRAI), this event brought together leading experts, researchers, and industry professionals to discuss one of the most pressing topics in AI development: robustness.
The workshop provided an insightful experience, allowing participants to explore tools and techniques for assessing and improving AI robustness throughout the entire machine learning workflow—from data auditing to model evaluation and uncertainty quantification.
A significant milestone in the event was the official launch of the Responsible AI Research Lab, at the FhP-AICOS’ premises in Porto. This is a pioneering initiative by FEUP and FhP-AICOS. This collaboration aims to bridge the gap between AI research and real-world applications, with a focus on Privacy, Auditing, and Compliance in AI.
The agenda featured a mix of expert talks, practical sessions, and a roundtable discussion, covering topics such as:
- Data robustness – systematic auditing techniques and quality assessment
- Model robustness – stress-testing AI models and generating synthetic datasets
- Algorithm robustness – enhancing AI reliability and uncertainty quantification
The event concluded with the ML Francesinha Summit: Robustness Edition, where participants continued the discussions in a more informal setting, strengthening collaborations over a traditional Francesinha dinner.
