Description:
Currently, the Internet of Things (IoT) is driving a new technological revolution that uses constrained wirelessly connected embedded devices to sense and actuate in many use-cases of our daily lives. Fraunhofer Portugal has a IoT solution composed by hardware, firmware and software named Kallisto that is focused on reducing the development cycle and provide a mature building block for IoT application. Kallisto already supports several sensing technologies, but is currently lacking the capacity to sense and alert to the presence of smoke. In this context, the student will design a smoke sensing solution based on Kallisto or its main processing unit (nRF52). The student will search for the sensors more suitable for the application, and design a hardware solution that includes Kallisto or its main processing unit (nRF52) and the selected sensors. Furthermore, the student will develop the firmware that will read and share the sensor data.
Outcome:
- Component survey for the Smoke Sensor.
- Firmware drivers for the Smoke Sensor.
- Predesign of the hardware solution.
